London based band The Proper Ornaments have released their latest album, Wooden Head, courtesy of the Fortuna Pop label.
With the majority of the tracks on the record coming in at under three minutes, The Proper Ornaments keep you engaged with these short and sharp pop bursts as can be heard on the brilliant opener Gone. The entrancing Ruby slows the pace whilst also holding you with its hypnotic melody making for one of the standout moments on the album. Magazine has a great retro feel to it, whilst the sublime Stereolab has hooks that get you into the tune straight away.
There are also more poignant moments on tracks such as Tire Me Out which is quickly followed by the swooning and dreamy track Always There. The understated yet harmonious Summer’s Gone, truly shines brightly as well as showing The Proper Ornaments a no one dimensional band. The haunting You Shouldn’t Have Gone precedes the wonderful You’ll See which wraps up this enthralling record.
