London based experimental musician and collage artist Ashley Reaks has released the unconventional but highly impressive album, Compassion Fatigue (1-8). Ashley has taken an interesting concept on this record where the first track is exactly one minute long in the key of A, the second two minutes in the key of B and so on.
Rather than seeing this as an album consisting of eight different tracks is it far easier to think of it as one piece that flows together wonderfully. Reaks has put together some fine songs with a variety of instruments as well as being ably aided by the superb vocals of Maria Jardardottir. One particular stand out moment is on Wrong ‘Un where some understated tones develop into an uplifting dance beat. Towards the end of the record the tracks start to take on an epic feel, non-more so that the fantastic closer, Disconnected.
