Arc Iris is the solo project of former Low Anthem member Jocie Adams and her self-titled debut album has been release by the Bella Union label. Adams has brought together an impressive collective of musicians to produce this excellent record that with its variety of unorthodox instruments has an almost avant-garde feel to it.
The album opens up with the superbly jaunty Money Gnomes, the fantastic use of a wide variety of instruments is also immediately audible to make for a truly delightful track. Whiskey Man is a far more stripped back affair that has a solemn feel before building to a rousing climax. One of the highlights of the album is the sublime Ditch which swoons along in a fantastic retro style. There is also plenty of variety on this record as can be heard on Powder Trainthat seem to merge country and skiffle to make a supremely unique tune. The highly impressive composition and vocals are rounded off with, Swimming which brings this fantastic record to a fitting close.
