My Sad Captains-Best Of Times

London based quartet My Sad Captains have released their third album Best Of Times, which is also their first since joining the excellent Bella Union label.  The band manages to combine fantastic 80’s pop tones with a distinct modern day sound to make for a truly mesmerising record.
Opening track Goodbyeis a thing of absolute beauty and really sets the tone for the whole record with its shimmering guitars and wonderfully understated synths.  The excellent All Times Into One sees a dramatic change of pace as well as having a superb, energetic intro that get you straight into the track.  The yearning All In Your Mind slows things down before slow burner Hardly There ends with a stunning crescendo.  A rather spectacular record is drawn to a close by the wondrous Familiar Ghosts that leaves you wanting more from the highly impressive My Sad Captains.
