Leeds based rock band have self-released their excellent debut album 1000 Words. The album is a fair bit heavier than a lot of stuff that has featured on here before but The Gonzos have gone the right side of heavy rock without becoming a parody of bands that have gone before them. The tone for the record is really set with the superb Absolut Zerowhich feels like a real anthem full of great riffs. It’s not just all pure rock though as the band show versatility with the punk rock track Come To Me as well as the sublime Sucking On A Shotgun which has a ska feel to it.
The title track is a riotous metal tune which has gang vocals that get you shouting along which is contrasted by the far more poppy but equally good Crash & Burn. There is a rare understated moment in the form of Fortune Or Fate a great track that highlights a more melodic side to the band as well as featuring some excellent, emotive vocals. 1000 Words really turns out to be a fun album to listen to and to top it off The Gonzos end proceedings with the brilliant blues infused Animal.
