The Spook School-Dress Up

Edinburgh quartet The Spook School have released their debut album, Dress Up, on Fortuna Pop and it is a great record with a heavy post punk influence.

Opening track Are You Who You Think You Are? sets the tone for the album and is a superb track full of excellent riffs and melodies that leave you instantly impressed with The Spook School.  You Make It Sound So Easy is an early highlight of the record and is a truly majestic pop tune that has infectious vocals.  The band keep up the great pot punk tones with I Don’t Know while the hushed tones of something are quite a pleasant departure from all that has come before it.

Devil Of Mine is another more low key affair that features some great lyrics and spine tingling guitars, the beats in That’s Why I Ran Away has a brilliant sixties pop feel to it.  Sweet melodies and distorted feedback are combined to great effect on You Don’t Know before an excellent album is brought to a conclusion with the sublime Who Ya Gonna Call? Goat Buster!
