Evans The Death-Evans The Death

London’s Evans The Death, self-titled debut album is a fantastic indie pop record beginning with Bo Diddley which really sets the tone for everything that follows.  Next up is the incredibly infectious Catch Your Cold, one of the early highlights of the album and then closely followed up by the charming Sleeping Song/So Long.  Letter Of Complaint sees Evans The Death in a more reflective mood before some more great hooks on Telling Lies which also highlights Katherine Whitaker’s excellent vocals.
The swooning start to Morning Voice is broken up with by some great heavy riffs in the middle, while Threads and A Small Child Punched Me In The Face sees the band continue with the top quality indie pop tunes.  Another stand out moment on the album is I’m So Unclean which has a great intro that rolls straight into a really fun, bouncy pop number.  What’s In Your Pocket and Wet Blanket are another couple of blinding tracks before the album ends on a sentimental touch with the sublime You’re Joking.  Evans The Death have produced a fine record here that is full of gleaming indie pop bursting with catchy tunes that show’s a lot of promise for a band that have released such an impressive debut.
