Blonde Redhead-Penny Sparkle

Blonde Redhead have come a long way since their Sonic Youth inspired, self-titled debut of 1995.  On their latest album Blonde Redhead have created a new synth-heavy sound for themselves, which is far detached from their punk rock origins.
Penny Sparkle is lacking in standout hits, however it is a well-developed piece and keeps the listener engaged throughout.  In Oslo the band have created something close to a disco hit, whilst still harking back towards the days of shoegaze.  It is in shoegaze that Penny Sparkle is most comparable with similarities to Bjork and Fever Ray.
With its slow pace and at times nostalgic feel Penny Sparkle is a good album and even without any one track standing out, it is still an enjoyable listen.
